About Dr Jane Casey

Jane has worked in a private capacity for over 20 years and continues to expand her knowledge in the complexities of mental health and the interface with the law. In her public capacity she works at Te Whatu Ora, Auckland, as a specialist in Mental Health for Older People.
Jane graduated from the University of Auckland with a MBChB in 1987. She worked in London, Auckland and then in Canterbury Hospitals, obtaining her Fellowship in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 1994. She worked as a Senior Lecturer in Old Age Psychiatry for the University of Otago and is a current Honorary Senior Lecturer for the University of Auckland.
Jane has been a Member of the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age since its inception in 1999 and held the position of Chair of the Faculty from 2013-2017. Jane is a member of the International Psychogeriatric Association Capacity Shared Interest Forum. She has presented in many settings, including International Capacity Conferences, NZ Elder Law and Continuing Legal Education Conferences and Mental Health Conferences. Jane has written papers and published in this field.
For active relaxation Jane enjoys literature, gardening, walking her dog, and spending time with family in the Coromandel.
